Vice President, Underwriting Operations

Kim Lancaster is Vice President, Underwriting Operations at RGA Reinsurance Company. In her current role, she is responsible for the daily operations of the US Underwriting Team.

She has 34 years of underwriting experience in insurance and reinsurance. Before joining RGA in 1994 as an Underwriting Consultant in the U.S. Facultative division, she was a Senior Underwriting Consultant with General American Life Insurance Company, and before then, an underwriter with Royal Neighbors of America, a fraternal life insurer specializing in the women’s market.

Kim has a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from Maryville University.  She is a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and of the Life Management Institute (FLMI), and she holds LOMA’s Associate in Customer Service (ACS) designation. Kim is active with RGA’s FALU club, is Past President of the Southeastern Home Office Underwriters Association and a past Program Committee Member for the Association of Home Office Underwriters.

Jeff Barwick is Director, U.S. Underwriting for RGA Reinsurance Company.  His responsibilities include oversight of facultative underwriting in the U.S. and of COLI/BOLI.

Prior to joining RGA in 2006, Jeff was an Underwriting Manager with Symetra Financial.  Before then, he was with Acacia/Ameritas Life as an Underwriting Consultant, and was Underwriting Manager and Life Claims Director for Primerica Financial Services.

Jeff is a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and the Life Management Institute (FLMI), and is a Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU).

Kevin Bettis is a Senior Underwriting Consultant for RGA Reinsurance Company and serves on the company’s Strategic Underwriting Program (SUP) and facultative underwriting (FAC) teams. He specializes in occupations, professional athletes and avocations.

Kevin received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance/accounting from Southeast Missouri State University. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He has also achieved the designations of Associate, Insurance Regulatory Compliance (AIRC), Associate, Customer Service (ACS), and Associate, Reinsurance Administration (ARA).

Elyssa Marcus Del Valle, M.D., is Vice President and Medical Director for RGA Reinsurance Company. She is responsible for underwriting services for clients, and conducting training seminars and industry presentations as a member of the RGA U.S. Mortality Markets division. She has been with the company since 2016.

Prior to joining RGA, Elyssa was Assistant Vice President and Medical Director for MetLife. Her insurance career includes experience in disability lines and dates back to 2003. She has also practiced emergency, internal and sports medicine in her career, including 12 years as a team and university physician at Wittenberg University. Elyssa has served as a preceptor at the University of Connecticut Medical School, where she taught clinical reasoning, and was a regular presenter in Quinnipiac University’s physician assistant and athletic training programs. She is also the former host of a live talk show on Clear Channel Radio entitled “House Calls with Dr. Lissy.” 

Elyssa received her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Medical College of Ohio, and has completed post-graduate residencies in internal medicine at Miami Valley Hospital and at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She serves on the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM) scientific program committee and executive board. Elyssa also serves on the executive board of the Metropolitan Underwriting Discussion (MUD) Group and NEHOUA.

Dr. Lisa Duckett is Vice President and Medical Director for RGA Reinsurance Company. In this role, she provides support for facultative underwriting and underwriter education through presentations, one-on-one interactions, and articles related to underwriting topics. 

Board certified in insurance medicine, internal medicine and geriatric medicine, Dr. Duckett has been in the insurance industry for twenty years after spending 12 years in clinical medicine. Her true love is geriatric medicine and she has done extensive research into the mortality risks and unique qualities of the older age cohort. 

She began her insurance medicine career in 1998 at ING Reinsurance before moving to Met Life and Genworth Financial as medical director, with responsibility for underwriting education, manual revision, and older age underwriting. She has been at RGA for 4 years now. 

Dr. Duckett served as the American Academy for Insurance Medicine (AAIM) planning committee chair for the education program in 2004-2005, and as President of the Midwestern Medical Directors Association (MMDA) in 2004.

Melissa Gallegos is a Director, Underwriting Team Manager for RGA Reinsurance Company.  Melissa is fluent in Spanish and has a working knowledge of Portuguese. She leads the Foreign Risk Team, is responsible for underwriting production, translating Spanish and Portuguese applications, and leads a team of six underwriters. 

Melissa received her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in international business and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Spanish from Florida Southern College.  She is a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).

Lars Haaland is Vice President, Fac Exclusives Underwriting for RGA Reinsurance Company. In this position, Lars oversees RGA’s Strategic Underwriting Program (SUP) and the Automatic Selection & Assessment Program (ASAP).  

With 19 years of experience in the financial services industry, Lars has a significant depth of underwriting and insurance knowledge. He began his career at American Express Financial Advisors, followed by senior underwriting roles at ING and ValMark Securities, Inc. before joining RGA in 2014 as a Senior Underwriting Consultant.

Lars received his Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from Boston University and his Master of Arts in theory and counseling from Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota. He holds the Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) designation, and he is a contributor to insurance industry publications.

Cheryl Joyce is Executive Director, Fac Exclusive SUP Solutions for RGA Reinsurance Company.  Cheryl, who has been with RGA for 30 years, is responsible for day-to-day facultative underwriting, and is active both with the Facultative Call Desk and with RGA's Strategic Underwriting Program (SUP), our supplemental mortality assessment and underwriting service for clients.  

Cheryl is a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).  She has also earned LOMA's Associate, Reinsurance Administration (ARA) and Associate in Customer Service (ACS) designations.

Dr. Valerie Kaufman, Vice President and Medical Director, provides case consultation for life underwriters. She also trains RGA and client underwriters and assists with the development of RGA’s underwriting guidelines.

Before coming to RGA in 2015, Dr. Kaufman served as Vice President and Chief Medical Director at MassMutual, Assistant Vice President and Medical Director at Sun Life Financial Canada, and Assistant Medical Director at Phoenix Home Life.

An active member of the insurance community, Dr. Kaufman has spoken on a variety of medical topics at local, regional and national industry meetings and coauthored an article for the Journal of Insurance Medicine. In addition, she is a past President of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM) and was Chair of the AAIM Education Committee from 2002 to 2009.

Dr. Kaufman received her M.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Canisius College. She is a Diplomate of the Board of insurance Medicine (DBIM) and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

As a Senior Underwriting Consultant, Kyle Kilman provides facultative underwriting for several specialty teams, including motor vehicle records, military, avocations, and professional athletes. He also supports the Strategic Underwriting Program (SUP).
Prior to joining RGA in 2012, Kyle was a financial advisor with Renaissance Financial/Minnesota Life.

Kyle received a Bachelor of Science in finance and a Bachelor of Science in real estate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is an Associate, Academy of Life Underwriting (AALU), and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). Kyle also holds Associate, Customer Service (ACS); Associate, Reinsurance Administration (ARA); and Associate, Regulatory Reinsurance Compliance (AIRC) designations from the Life Office Management Association (LOMA).

Miriam Krajewski is Head of Client Underwriting Training for RGA Reinsurance Company.  In this role, Miriam has responsibility for the GULF program, a premier classroom and online training system for our clients around the world.

Prior to joining RGA in 2006, Miriam’s 20 year career focused on underwriting and claims in a variety of production and technical roles in Australia, with both direct carriers and reinsurers. She joined RGA’s Australian office as a senior underwriting consultant before moving to the technical manager role.  In 2009 Miriam joined the International Division to help develop RGA’s new global client training program – GULF – along with providing underwriting technical oversight to our Asia businesses.

Miriam holds a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in accounting) from Deakin University, with a place on the Dean’s Honour List.  She is a Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), a founding Senior Associate of the Australian Underwriting and Claims Association (ALUCA), and a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU), which she earned with distinction. She also holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from NSW Technical and Further Education.

Miriam served two years on the ALUCA NSW committee, one as president.  Since moving to St Louis in 2012, she has become a member and active participant in the Association for Talent Development, presenting at local chapter meetings.

Bill McMillen is a Senior Underwriting Consultant, providing facultative underwriting with a focus , on worksite and COLI/BOLI coverage. Bill has expertise in occupational, genetic and professional athlete underwriting issues. Healso supports the Strategic Underwriting Program (SUP), and he has been with RGA since 2014.

Prior to joining RGA, Bill worked as an operations specialist at Fireman’s Fund, and he was a billings specialist with Allianz.

Bill received a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration from Saint Louis University. He is a Fellow of Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU), and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).

In her role as Underwriting Consultant, Elizabeth Pfeffer provides facultative underwriting to clients as a member of the Military Specialty Team. She is also part of RGA’s ASAP development team. Liz has been with RGA since 2014.

Prior to joining RGA, Liz gained a different perspective on mortality and morbidity, working in emergency room admissions for Des Peres Hospital, and as a financial analyst for Mercy Health Systems, United HealthCare, and Saint Louis University Hospital, and as an auditor for Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).

Liz received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Missouri-St Louis. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU), and a Fellow of the Life Management Office (FLMI).

Dr. Dave Rengachary is Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Director for US Mortality Markets at RGA Reinsurance Company.  Prior to joining RGA in 2013, he was a general neurologist in practice at Missouri Baptist Medical Center where he also served as medical director for their Primary Stroke Center.    

He is the primary author and editor of the Washington University Neurology Survival Guide.  He serves on the board of directors of Memory Home Care Solutions, a Saint Louis based non-profit dedicated to Alzheimer’s patient and caregiver support. 
 
Dr. Rengachary is Past-President of the Midwestern Medical Directors Association, Deputy Director of the Longer Life Foundation, Medical Consultant for the Academy of Life Underwriting, and a member of the Educational Committee of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine.

Scott Sibley is Director, Team Manager, Underwriting for RGA Reinsurance Company, focused primarily on providing facultative and Strategic Underwriting Program (SUP) support to RGA clients. He specializes in underwriting genetics, professional athletes and avocations. Scott works with RGA's Information Technology department to develop system enhancements and updates to the RGA Central website. He has participated in underwriter training and client audits, and is a member of the manual committee 

Prior to joining RGA in 2012, Scott worked as a lab and pharmacy technician for Monsanto and Walgreen's.

Scott received a Bachelor of Science in biology with an emphasis in microbiology/biotechnology from Missouri State University.  He is a Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU); a Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI); an Associate Customer Services (ACS), and an Associate of Reinsurance Administration (ARA).

Prior to joining RGA in 2017, Jennifer was Senior Underwriting Consultant for Legal & General America, and has also served in similar roles for Securian and RiverSource.
