Manulife introduces new critical illness plan ManuBright Care. Press release, June 9, 2017.

ManuBright Care offers comprehensive critical illness (CI) protection up to the age of 100. It covers 60 major and 44 early-stage CIs. The plan also includes a continuous care benefit with additional coverage for cancer, heart attack, and stroke after the first claim for any major CI. 

MetLife Hong Kong launches its first critical illness annuity product. MarketWired, May 25, 2017.

MetLife Healthcare Companion Critical Illness Annuity allows customers to choose between two options for receiving guaranteed annuity payouts, a rider with coverage to age 85, and the other with coverage to age 100.

Indonesia

10 Years of Prudential Syariah: Introducing PRUprime healthcare syariah. Press release, April 27, 2017.

PRUprime Healthcare Syariahis a Shariah-based hospitalization product. It offers global coverage and covers billed medical costs. One of the innovative features of the product is the “Growing Benefits Facility” which offers customers a 10% increase in the annual payout limit if they do not submit any claims during a year. This facility is a cumulative benefit that is capped at 50% of the initial annual limit.

Japan

Tokio Marine (non-life) will launch a disability income protection plan, covering five critical illnesses, on October 1, 2017. Press release, June 21, 2017. (Text in Japanese)

The plan provides an annual benefit of 0.5-3 million yen to customers who are unable to work due to five CIs (malignant neoplasia [cancer], acute myocardial infarction, stroke, hepatic cirrhosis, and chronic renal failure) persisting more than 30 days. The benefit will be paid annually to policyholders age 70 and younger while the condition continues.

SBI Life launches Group Credit Life  (GCL) disability insurance and GCL insurance for Sumishin Net Bank. Press release, June 1, 2017. (Text in Japanese)

The GCL disability plan provides a monthly benefit and a lump sum benefit of 300,000 yen paid for any condition that continues more than 12 months. The GCL insurance plan pays a lump sum benefit in the event of death or total permanent disability (TPD) and offers a number of riders that support activities of daily living.

Insurer FWD launches critical illness product for whole family. Vietnam News, July 5, 2017.

FWD Vietnam Life Insurance Company launched a new critical illness policy, called “Cả nhà vui khỏe”, offering protection for all members of a family.

Singapore

Prudential launches Singapore’s only stand-alone male-focused critical illness plan to meet rising demand from customers. Press release, May 19, 2017.

PRUman is a stand-alone critical illness plan designed for men only, covering male-specific illness such as prostate cancer.

United Kingdom

Virgin Money partners with BGL Group to launch new life insurance product. Life Insurance International, May 8, 2017.

The term life insurance product offers level and decreasing term insurance with optional critical illness cover. This is the first life insurance affinity partnership for BGL Group.

AIG Life gives customers a start in life and CIC. Press release, May 30, 2017.

Life Start and CIC Start products offer quality cover at lower premiums. The premiums increase at a fixed 3.5% per year.

United States

Crystal & Company and MetLife launch Group long-term disability insurance.  BusinessWire, March 20, 2017.

CrystalMax is a group long-term disability (LTD) plan developed by Crystal & Company in collaboration with MetLife. CrystalMax offers a monthly benefit of up to $50,000 without individual medical underwriting. The plan is available for financial institutions with at least 40 employees.

New Colonial Life accident plan helps provide financial safety net. Press release, April 24, 2017.

The individual accident plan is an indemnity-based offering, with benefits including telemedicine and treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder due to an accident. Employees can customize their coverage with the addition of optional riders and new benefits.  

Voya Financial launches enhanced accident insurance. Press release, April 6, 2017.

The Voya Employee Benefits’ Compass product suite announced an enhanced version of its accident insurance. The enhanced version offers the additional benefit choices including a sports accident benefit, a health system benefit, chiropractic treatment, and urgent care treatment.
