Lawrence S. Carson is Executive Vice President of the Global Financial Solutions (GFS) unit of Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated. GFS is responsible for RGA’s asset-intensive, capital-motivated, and bulk longevity reinsurance businesses, collaborating worldwide to support client capital needs with customized reinsurance solutions. Larry is a member of RGA’s Executive Committee.
Most recently, Larry was Executive Vice President and Chief Actuary of GFS, where he oversaw all aspects of pricing and risk management. Before joining RGA in 1999, he was with the actuarial firm of Milliman and Robertson (now Milliman Inc.), where he worked on demutualizations, mergers and acquisitions valuations, and market conduct class-action settlements. Previously, he was with Equitable Life Assurance Society, where he held several actuarial positions.
Larry received a Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) degree in mathematics with honors from Harvard University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA). He has served in various roles with the Society of Actuaries Reinsurance Section Council, was a member of the Academy’s Life Reinsurance Work Group, and has spoken at numerous industry meetings.
David’s more than 35 years of actuarial experience in the insurance industry give him deep and broad global knowledge of the life insurance industry’s financial needs. Prior to the 2010 creation of the Global Financial Solutions unit, David led RGA International Division’s Capital and Financial Solutions unit, which successfully placed both RGA’s first asset-intensive reinsurance transaction outside the U.S. and RGA’s first global longevity transaction. David was also a key participant in RGA’s rapid growth and success internationally: as the International Division’s Chief Actuary prior to 2008, he oversaw all aspects of pricing and actuarial support.
Before joining RGA in 1998, David held several actuarial leadership positions in product development, pricing, corporate taxation and financial reporting for Manulife, North American Life and Dominion Life.
David earned his Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) degree from the University of Waterloo. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA), and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
David Addison leads North American business development for the Global Financial Solutions (GFS) unit of RGA, with a focus on financial, interest-sensitive and structured reinsurance programs in the annuity, life and health markets.
In addition to these responsibilities, at various times, David has been responsible for sales of structured products in RGA’s Asia Pacific segment and led sales for RGA’s captive solutions team. He currently works in conjunction with RGA’s Healthcare Reinsurance Division to develop additional opportunities.
David has worked in the insurance and reinsurance industry for more than 25 years, joining RGA in 1999. Before joining RGA, David was Director, Strategic Development for a New York domiciled life insurer, where he participated in evaluating and closing strategic merger and acquisition opportunities. He has also been a consultant for one of the major actuarial consulting firms out of their Milwaukee office, and he started his career as an actuary for a small life insurer in Minnesota.
David received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree (with honors) in statistics from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in Great Britain, and his M.B.A. (with honors) from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA). David has served on the Reinsurance Section Council and has been a frequent speaker at industry and regulatory meetings, in North America, Asia, and Europe.
George Chow is Senior Vice President, Head of Asia Pacific Regional Pricing in the Global Financial Solutions (GFS) unit of RGA. Based in Singapore, he leads a team of pricing professionals in the structuring, modeling and risk assessment of capital motivated, asset intensive and longevity transactions for the Asia Pacific region.
George has more than 15 years of reinsurance experience with RGA in a wide range of actuarial and management roles. He began his career at RGA in 2000 and has worked in the U.K., Canada, Hong Kong and Japan, with responsibilities that have included management of the pricing and valuation teams as well as providing product development and marketing support.
Prior to joining RGA, George worked for a Canadian insurance company in Canada and the U.K., where his roles included pricing pension annuities, asset liability management and providing support to the company’s demutualization.
George graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) degree from the University of Waterloo, in Ontario, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), the Institute of Actuaries (FIA), and of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CFIA). He also is a CFA charterholder.
As Senior Vice President, Asset-Intensive, Global Financial Solutions (GFS), René Cotting leads a global team in the development of novel financial reinsurance solutions to help RGA clients respond to regulatory and market changes. The team also provides transaction structuring and pricing support. He is based in RGA’s Singapore office.
René is a seasoned finance professional with over 24 years of experience in reinsurance, investment banking, consulting, and research. He has successfully originated, structured and executed transactions in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. Prior to joining RGA in 2009, René was Executive Director, FI Solutions Group – Insurance for the Dutch state-owned bank ABN AMRO/RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland), serving as the head of its London desk and focusing on regulatory and economic capital optimization for both the life and non-life markets, and on life insurance product development. Before that, he was Vice President, Insurance & Weather Derivatives for ABN AMRO. René began his career with positions at Zurich Financial Services and Zurich Re.
René received his Diploma in chemistry and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Zurich University. He also completed the International Executive Development Program at INSEAD, a graduate business school with campuses in France, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining RGA, Matt was Chief Actuary for Athene Holding and held various roles at Athene, Nationwide, and Allstate involving pricing and product development, portfolio management, ALM, underwriting, modeling, and financial reporting duties for numerous life, annuity, and worksite products.
Matt received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from The College of Wooster, and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), an Enrolled Actuary (EA – inactive), and a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU).
As Senior Vice President, Stable Value, Karen Edgerton leads RGA’s stable value business. The team that she leads has built a block of stable value wrap business which covers over $13 billion of externally managed stable value portfolios, while also implementing an in-house developed administration system.
Karen joined RGA in 2012 and has over 31 years of experience as an actuary in pricing and product development roles involving annuity, group insurance, and reinsurance products. Prior to joining RGA, Karen held several executive positions with insurance and reinsurance companies, including AEGON, ING Re, Swiss Re, and Lincoln Life.
Karen received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in actuarial science from Ball State University, and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Member of the Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and a member of the Stable Value Industry Association (SVIA).
Michael is a seasoned actuary experienced in leading projects, initiatives and teams. He held key actuarial positions in product development for life, annuity, and long-term care insurance; financial reporting for life and annuity blocks; and investment product portfolio management. Prior to joining RGA in 2011, Michael worked as Partner at Frings Consulting Solutions, Senior Vice President at Great American Financial, Supervising Actuary at Genworth, Associate Actuary at Delta Life and Annuity and Actuarial Associate at Protective Life.
Michael graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama, and he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a CFA charterholder, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). Michael is a past president of the Cincinnati Actuarial Club.
In 1998, Hamish was the first employee hired by RGA in the United Kingdom. He was an integral member of the team that took RGA’s UK operations from a startup to its current status as the market’s leading life reinsurance provider. He spent the first 10 years as Chief Pricing Actuary. He was named Head of Longevity and Financial Reinsurance in 2009, and later became Senior Vice President, GFS.
Hamish came to RGA from Gerling Global (UK), where he headed up its Pricing and Valuation areas. He began his career at Manulife Financial, and stayed on when it was bought by Canada Life, working as the valuation actuary for the unit-linked subsidiaries.
Hamish graduated from Cambridge University’s Sidney Sussex College, and qualified as an actuary in 1993. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA).
Prior to joining RGA, Cormac worked in investment banking at the Royal Bank of Scotland, where he focused on structuring and marketing solutions for insurers across Europe and Asia. He also worked in private banking at AIAC where he managed the actuarial team, and began his insurance career at Aviva.
Cormac is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA).
Dustin Hetzler is Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary in Global Financial Solutions (GFS), a unit of RGA. He oversees all aspects of pricing, risk management, and marketing and transaction services for the unit. Prior to his current role, Dustin was responsible for pricing reinsurance transactions globally within the GFS lines of business Capital Solutions, Asset-Intensive, Longevity, Stable Value, and Acquisitions.
With more than 28 years of reinsurance and insurance actuarial experience, Dustin has served in positions with various actuarial and management responsibilities. These responsibilities include strategy, risk management, pricing, valuation, product development, talent development, and marketing. Some specific areas of extensive involvement for Dustin include reinsurance solution construction, longevity, economic capital model development, treaty negotiation, and asset and liability model construction. These roles and responsibilities cover life, health, and annuity products both domestically and internationally.
Dustin received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in mathematics from Iowa State University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Richard has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry spanning the life, P&C, financial guarantee, brokerage, and risk advisory sectors. Throughout his career, Richard has led deal teams analyzing and deploying capital across a broad range of insurance portfolios. Previously Richard was the Managing Director, Structured Insurance at Ambac Assurance in New York City, where he underwrote financial guarantees for some of the most innovative life insurance linked securitizations. He also led a multi-faceted rehabilitation of a complex multi-billion financing vehicle severely impacted by the global financial crisis.
While at Manulife Financial he served as a vice president in their corporate M&A group where he evaluated a wide range of insurance, distribution and wealth management platforms in North America and Asia. Richard was previously a vice president in Manulife’s reinsurance division where his team delivered capital motivated reinsurance solutions to life reinsurers across Europe and North America. He has also served as a special risks P&C broker at Sedgwick, where he specialized in helping multinational corporations finance uninsurable risks through the use of captives and a variety of alternative risk transfer techniques.
Richard is a Certified Public Accountant (Illinois), and a Chartered Professional Accountant (Ontario), and started his career with KPMG in Toronto, Canada.
Prior to joining RGA in 2015, Jeff served for 15 years in several senior executive roles with USAA Life Insurance Company, including as Chief Actuary, and as President. He is also a former board member of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) and served on multiple sub-committees for the organization.
Jeff received a Bachelor of Science in actuarial sciences from the University of Illinois. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA).
Gaston Nossiter, Senior Vice President, Global Financial Solutions, leads and manages the initiation and placement of reinsurance transactions pertaining to non-traditional initiatives in RGA’s Asia Pacific region. He is located in the Asia Pacific regional office in Hong Kong.
Gaston has nearly 20 years of experience in global financial services. He is an experienced team manager, developing and structuring innovative products and strategies to enhance risk and capital management for pension funds and insurance companies. Before joining RGA in 2009, he worked for Morgan Stanley as an advisor to senior management of life insurance companies and pension funds regarding asset and liability management, risk management, and capital management strategies to increase return on capital, enhance equity valuation, and improve credit ratings. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Gaston worked internationally with the consulting firm of Towers Perrin. He has worked in London, Sydney, Brussels and Tokyo, in addition to Hong Kong.
Originally from Australia, Gaston graduated from Macquarie University in 1993 with a Master of Economics. He also received an M.B.A. with distinction from the London Business School. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Mark joined RGA in 1990. Prior to his current role, he led numerous transaction teams involving financial reinsurance, structured finance, and business acquisition transactions that have significantly contributed to the growth of RGA. As part of the North American GFS team, he was an experienced leader on many of RGA’s largest transactions and built a respected team and deal process that has been recognized as a competitive market advantage focused on close client collaboration and execution certainty.
Mark is a Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI). He received his MBA from Washington University in St. Louis and his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in business administration from the University of Missouri
Dale joined RGA in 2005. He has held a number of roles throughout the organization, including pricing of traditional term and critical illness products in the United Kingdom and as an actuary on the Research and Development team. Starting in 2007, Dale helped develop RGA’s Longevity function and Global Financial Solutions Pricing team throughout the region.
Dale received a Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSci) degree in finance and actuarial science from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA).
Currently based in Cologne, Germany, Paul, who joined RGA in 2006, has worked in the insurance industry for than 25 years. He began his career at Mutual Life of Canada, now part of Sun Life of Canada. He also worked for Manulife in its Singapore, Hong Kong and Germany offices, rising to Managing Director of Manulife’s Cologne office.
Paul received a Bachelor of Mathematics degree with Honours in actuarial science and statistics from the University of Waterloo, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and a member of the Deutsche Aktuarvereinigung (DAV).
Gary Seifert is Senior Vice President, North America, Global Financial Solutions (GFS), a unit of RGA. He is responsible for managing the North America region of GFS, including business development, marketing and transaction services, and stable value operations.
Gary started his business development career in 1992 as a Reinsurance Account Executive, marketing to life insurance companies in the U.S., and has filled a range of sales and marketing roles for RGA since then. He began his reinsurance career in 1989 as a reinsurance analyst for ITT Lyndon Re, and joined RGA in 1995 when RGA and Swiss Re purchased ITT Lyndon Re, forming RGA/Swiss Financial Group. RGA bought Swiss Re’s interest in 2000, renaming the unit RGA Financial Markets, and then in 2010, RGA merged the unit with RGA Capital and Financial Solutions to form GFS.
He received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in accounting from the University of Missouri – Columbia and his M.B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).
