ReCap

Michael (Mike) McLellan is the Chief Executive Officer of ReCap and serves as the chairman of RGA's Real Estate Investment Committee.  During his tenure at RGA, the real estate department has grown from three individuals to nearly 60 employees with approximately $8 billion of assets under management.  To assemble the ReCap team, Mike drew on a longstanding network of loyal colleagues, many of whom worked with him for over two decades.

Mike began his career in commercial real estate in 1983 when he started as a real estate analyst at the Denver office of General American Life. His experience includes new loan origination, underwriting, portfolio management, delinquency management, loan restructuring and foreclosure, real estate equity joint venture structuring, mezzanine fund development, equity real estate development, and property management.  He moved to General American’s home office in St. Louis in 1986 and later became the head of real estate at General American Investment Management Company (GAIMCO).  When GAIMCO went public as Conning Asset Management Company, Mike continued as the leader.  Under his direction, Conning’s third-party real estate assets under management grew to over $6 billion with clients ranging from small to large life insurance companies, pension and endowment funds and numerous CMBS transactions.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and an MBA from the University of Denver.
