Long COVID: Insurance Underwriting Perspectives

Brain fog ... blurred vision ... loss of taste.

These are just a few of the lingering, and sometimes debilitating, symptoms reported by COVID-19 "long-haulers" or individuals who appear to have cleared the SARS-CoV-2 infection but continue to report post-acute sequelae.

RGA's father-daughter team, Dr. John Lefebre, Vice President and Medical Officer, Global Medical, and Lauren Lefebre, Director, eUnderwriting Rules, conduct a comprehensive evaluation of 'long COVID' and other trends emerging among survivors of the virus. The pair address a range of underwriting and claims considerations, including long-term outcomes, previous pandemics/infections from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) to Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS), and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).
