In Brief

This video was developed in conjunction with actuview, the first permanent international media platform for actuaries ( actuview content reflects contributions from actuarial institutions, corporate partners and industry professionals. RGA is actuview’s sponsoring partner.

One factor limiting use of wearable data is a lack of research into the linkages between common metrics and medical expenses. RGA's John Rutherford introduces promising RGA research into three common measures – physical activity, sleep and heart rates –  based on population-level datasets. The results are striking.

John also explores potential applications of this data, from underwriting and claims management to cross-selling and up-selling opportunities and wellness program propositions. Finally he addresses operational, data security and regulatory considerations and introduces the advantages of joining health insurance ecosystem such as RGA's HEIDI.
